Before arriving in Paris for the IMBA, I was a working student at Heidelberg Printing Press in Heidelberg, a German manufacturer of printing press machines. Besides studying for a BA degree in international business, my working tasks varied from common business area controlling, implementation of net working capital optimization measures, and several responsibilities in the treasury department (mainly selection of an inhouse bank provider).
The nature of the work can be considered as above-intern level with high exposure to senior level executives. Subsequent to my studies I was offered a position with ample opportunities for further career development within the firm.
However, I decided to continue with the IMBA in order to further my theoretical base, promote my international profile and prepare for a career in consulting.
What has been your career path since graduating from the IMBA?
Given the cultural and occupational diversity of the IMBA program, I started reflecting on my past career development and my objectives for the years to come. As a result of this process, guided by experienced PSB-staff, my conviction to become a consultant has been fortified. After graduating, I started my career as a restructuring consultant at Rödl & Partner, an integrated professional services firm which specializes in giving advice to German SMEs. My current occupation involves frequent travelling throughout Germany. Since time is of the essence in a crisis situation, our teams are usually located on-site at the client’s headquarters. In collaboration with senior management, we compile an integrated restructuring concept which is tailored to the individual company’s needs and capabilities.
Further we incorporate external factors such as competition, market developments as well as macroeconomic, geopolitical or demographic developments. My area of expertise is integrated modelling (BS/IS/CF) in order to validate the restructuring concept. In comparison to my colleges, without exception from elite schools, I have gained the impression that PSB has prepared me exceptionally well for the challenges of my profession as a restructuring consultant.
What has the program brought you?
During my first year as a consultant, I had been directly or indirectly involved in seven of the 50 largest insolvencies in Germany. Thanks to the IMBA program I acquired the skills to break into the industry and excel in my field. I wouldn’t be where I am without it.
